Exceptional practice praised at Compass Academy

Compass Academy’s Vice Principal, Holly Lockyer, has been recognised for exceptional relationship-building practice at this year’s Thrive Partnership event in Hull.

Holly’s nomination follows her dedication to supporting a pupil at Compass Academy who is a Child Looked After.

Holly ensures that education colleagues and wider system partners understand this young person's presentation and needs through a trauma-informed lens, and fiercely advocates for them to have the resources and support needed to thrive.

Holly is a valued and trusted adult to this young man who struggles to trust and connect with adults due to their life experiences. She has taken the time to develop this trust and remains attuned to the young person's needs to preserve the relationship despite the systemic and relational barriers that can present in the school context.

Holly has made a significant difference to this young man's life because she has shone a light on his many strengths and talents which were previously buried and masked by trauma responses developed to keep adults at a distance.
