Staff Survey Results - July 2025

Stakeholder engagement is vital to our Trust and its individual schools. It offers numerous benefits, including informed decision-making, enhanced communication, target development and can create more inclusive, effective, and responsive systems.

In July 2025, Trust staff were given the opportunity to complete our latest survey. Please find the outcomes below.

Participation

Our thanks go to the 336 respondents that completed the staff survey in July 2025 you represented 32% of the overall workforce. Responses were received from all schools, and were predominantly from teaching staff at a rate of 2:1 support staff.

Responses were largely from those accustomed to working in a school environment. 82% of participants had 5 or more years experience in education, 62% with more than 10 years.

The survey providers have compared our results with responses for the same questions in similar Trusts or schools, referred to in the report as ‘the benchmark’.

Professional Development

73% of participants across the Trust identified that they had attended a professional development activity during the summer term. This is in line with the benchmark.

61% of staff across the Trust consider that recent learning and development activities have improved their performance.  This is 7 percentage points above benchmark.

Teaching staff completed more personal development activities than support staff.

What are we doing in response?

Principals have been asked to;

  • Review the feedback regarding professional development within their individual school.
  • Review CPD for support staff
  • Review the effectiveness of training that has taken place

All staff have free access to the National College which has a wide range of online courses designed for the education sector.

Development opportunities for all staff are being reviewed as part of the HR Strategy plan.

Student Behaviour

  • Across the Trust 30% felt that the last lesson was disrupted for over 10 minutes, which we recognise is much higher than the 7% benchmark.

- 53% of respondents felt that disruption occurred for over 5 minutes.

- Only 12% of respondents said there had been no disruptions at all which is slightly below the 13% benchmark

  • Across the Trust student behaviour is seen at its worst during indoor lessons (32%), transitioning between lessons (31%) and during lunchtime (22%)
  • 8% of staff said that they would like more behaviour management training which is in line with the benchmark.
In terms of actions that would improve behaviour staff across the Trust wanted firmer action when students misbehave (38%), followed by changes to the policy (13%) and then more leadership presence (11%)
What are we doing in response?

Student behaviour is a key focus in a number of our schools and actions have already taken place to address this.  This work will continue over the coming months, taking into account your feedback.  In particular:

  • Principals will review school specific responses relating to behaviour.
  • A review of all of the behaviour procedures in schools has taken place, overseen by Helen Winn CEO.
  • Senior Leadership Team time in secondary schools has been reallocated so that there is a greater presence on the corridors and in the classroom
  • A phone free schools programme is being implemented in our secondary schools  in November 2025 to improve student engagement and reduce phone related behaviour incidents.

Taking everything into consideration, how do staff feel about work at the moment?

Across the Trust 55% of staff were very or moderately satisfied about work which is in line with the benchmark.

What are we doing in response?
  • The Trust has increased engagement with local Trade Union representatives to discuss concerns and potential solutions.
  • Methods of obtaining feedback from leavers are being reviewed so that we have greater understanding about their employment experience and potential areas for improvement.
  • We will continue to monitor your feedback in future surveys and hope that we can work together to increase in this score over time.

Next Steps

The next staff survey is scheduled to take place after the October half term. The higher the participation the more meaningful the data will be to enable us to focus on the right areas to improve your work experience.
